Today, March 4, 2020, marks the one year anniversary into the death of beloved actor, Luke Perry. Perry rose to fame as heartthrob bad boy, Dylan McKay, in the hit television series, Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1995 and then again (after a hiatus from the show), from 1998 to 2000. He is also known to the new generation as Fred Andrews in the hit CW series, Riverdale.
Perry took on life by pursuing acting fresh out of high school. As a generous and sweet man, many fans flocked to him because of his caring personality and good looks. He was a huge star and many cast and crew members boasted about his awesome personality and his beautiful heart. Riverdale executives told TMZ after his death, “Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness.”
Perry passed away on March 4, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, CA. He had been rushed to the hospital just days before after suffering a sudden stroke while in his Sherman Oaks, CA home. When EMT’s arrived, he was responsive but unfortunately, his health deteriorated as the days carried on. In an effort to give his brain a fighting chance, doctors tried sedating him, but the damage was already done.
Perry was set to appear in a few guest spots in the reboot of BH90210, which was just announced a few days before his death. He could not sign-on as a regular because of his commitment to Riverdale. In another upsetting announcement to fans just recently, BH90210 has been cancelled and will not be renewed for season 2.
Perry married Rachel Minnie Sharp in 1993 but they separated in 2003. During their marriage, they had two children, son Jack Perry and daughter Sophie Perry. At the hospital, he was surrounded by his fiance, Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, his children Jack and Sophie, mother and step-father, Ann and Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder and other family and close friends.
